Religion gives meaning of life – without religion, life is pointless.
For many people in the world, religion is a very important thing. It gives them faith, trust and hope. Religion gives many people a road map in their life without they could not life happy. For religious people life would be pointless without a religion because there would be no goal and no higher purpose. Without to faith in a supernatural world their live would be pointless.
Of course religion does not only mean to believe in God. It is the faith in something “higher” and something “supernatural”, too. Therefore religion does not mean only people there are in confessions like Catholics or Protestant. Every human must have a religion when we say religion is faith in general. Without a faith in anyone live is really pointless.
But when religion means some world religion like Christianity you cannot say that a life without a confession is pointless. Even so many believers and dependants of such religious organizations think so that every human being without a confession is nonbeliever and cannot have a good live.
Of course that is a very conservative and unenlightened view of religion. For the enlightenment, for instance, religion is the faith in your own intellect. In the ages of enlightenment religion has gotten a new meaning. It was no more longer only the belief in God. Religion developed to an attitude of live.
The point is that religion in the view of a modern and enlightened world must not fail in every live. When religion means faith in general it is essential for every one. Religion as a confession in some religious organization is another thing. A faith is not dependent on a religious organization. In an enlighten worldreligion faith is belive in the intellect of a rational world.
